What is coaching?

Coaching as a profession has been around for over 20 years. The philosophy of coaching is based on fundamental human principles of integrity, accountability, respect and a belief in human potential. Coaching is a goal-oriented and results-focused partnership that helps clients bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.

How can coaching help me?

As your coach, some of the things that I can help you do are:

  • Discover your passions, set your goals and reach them quickly
  • Focus on the actions and behaviours that will produce significant results quickly
  • Stretch yourself
  • Be the best you can possibly be
  • Alter how you think, feel and behave so you can appreciate your own greatness
  • Improve your self-image and self-esteem
  • Achieve the quality of life, both personal and professional that you always dreamed of.

How does coaching work?

We will work together to achieve these results.  As your coach, I will:

  • Ask you to do more than you would be able to do by yourself
  • Provide a structure, tools and perspective to help you accomplish more in your life
  • Dare you to take more risks
  • Help you think laterally to create lots of options, and then think deeply about the choices you wish to make
  • Give you a step-by-step process that avoids the overwhelming feeling of not knowing where to start
  • Assist you to set deadlines to give the whole process more urgency and importance
  • Help you identify old obstructive habits, drop them, and develop new productive habits to replace them
  • Ask you the hard questions and hold you to what you say you want and will do
  • Ensure you stay committed to yourself and your goals
  • Provide you a non-judgmental, safe and an unconditionally supportive space to allow you to discover and be your true self

A typical month of coaching includes three 45-minute weekly sessions and unlimited e-mail support between sessions. The sessions are conducted by telephone or in person and take place in the first three weeks of each month.

What happens in a coaching session?

A coaching session is customized for each individual. Each session will be a little different, based on your needs at that time. In general, I will listen to where you are and where you want to go, ask questions to clarify or evoke further information, give you feedback, brainstorm ideas and challenge you, while offering encouragement and validation for your successes, finding the learning in your mistakes, and helping you see the bigger picture. I may also make requests or give assignments, suggest a course of action or ask you to come up with one, or whatever we feel will most effectively move you closer to your goals.

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

While emotional issues may come up in the course of coaching — and you do learn more about and develop yourself in the process — coaching primarily focuses on helping you achieve specific goals through taking action and developing constructive behaviors, rather than on healing psychological issues. Coaching focuses more on the present and future than the past. It is about generating possibilities and moving through any blocks or obstacles, rather than healing deep-seated emotional issues and traumas.

Coaching and therapy can be mutually supportive, and many people work simultaneously with a coach and a therapist thus accelerating their progress, or use coaching as the next step after therapy.

How much does it cost?

I charge $350 per month for my services.  This covers 3 – 45 minute coaching sessions by phone or in person and unlimited e-mail support between sessions.  Other packages are available should you require less or more sessions.
